Whoa.

On Friday night we watched a movie called Wolf Creek. It was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. I guess it effected me so much because it was one of those movies that you just know could really happen. Like the movie, Open Water, it left me unsettled for the rest of the night having me, much to my chagrin, dreaming about it and the fate of those people involved. Both of those movies were based on true accounts. Wolf Creek is (loosely) based on backpackers (since the kids were driving instead of walking) in Australia and of course Open Water was about scuba divers.

In Australia, there was a man, Ivan Milat, who was finally arrested in the serial killings of backpackers. This site actually chronicals the finding of his victims, talks about the sole survivor, and gives you a profile of said killer. Very interesting reading. Very scary movie. Not Freddie Kruger type of slasher movie, but Open Water and now Wolf Creek being the kind that gets under your skin and right into that primative area of everyone's soul when survival was everything.

i know this is not quite pc to say, Alice, but someone should make a film about thai gang-rapists preying on and then killing western bird backpackers - so as to serve a warning to those ditzy naive birds.

but then again, knowing what those sad bastards are like ["..damaging thailand's image!", "..an insult to us peace-loving and unviolent thais!" and such other bollocks] i don't think any film will see the light of day.

Perhaps there should be a short clip of dangers like that in all the travel movies for exotic places, along with what to eat what not to eat...etc.

Can you believe it? My own blog ate my comment to you Jo. Anyway, what I wrote was that if you should decide to see it, don't see it alone.

To "the letter b" :

Its not just a problem in Thailand, I came across similar problems in India, Nepal, Indonesia and Morocco. This is a growing problem and western women need to be educated in the dangers. I wrote about this recently : http://blog.twowolves.co.uk/2006/01/10/189/

We didn't enjoy Wolf Creek much either. Verging on snuff porn, nasty.

Im not big into scary movies however was forced to see Emily Rose last year and i admit to being a bit disturbed by it. Its says its based on a true story about possession (in German) but like many of HW 'true stories' it is a combination of parts of true life events rolled into one script. Worth seeing if you like the bejesus scared out of you!
