Happy St. Valentines Day to you too Alice. I hope this holiday does not offend our Mulim friends. We must of course be "sensitive" to their concerns and do whatever they say.

no Mike, it certainly doesn't offend Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian Muslims or any other of their kith - as far as I know, they are enjoying it as anyone else does :)
but of course, there are some spoilsports - read: self-styled spiritual leaders - who take it upon themselves to admonish these same Muslims for aping the west. but hey, isn't that common amongst other non-western societies too who are so afraid of progress?
b: You just try and buy a valentines card in Saudi Arabia and let me know when your bruises heal.
why Saudi Arabia, Mike? just because they happen to be representative of Muslims the world over? so you take it that all Muslims are psychotic like them? some of my close friends - and I even grew up with them - are Muslim, and as I had mentioned previously *Singaporean*, *Malaysian* and *Indonesian*.
b: Did I say that Saudis were representative of Muslims the world over?
Please tell me if I did.
I hope you do not mean to suggest by your comment that we should ignore the anti-Christian, anti-Western violence that grips whole nations of the Muslim world.
