F.A.A. Alerted On Qaeda in '98, 9/11 Panel Said

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 - American aviation officials were warned as early as 1998 that Al Qaeda could "seek to hijack a commercial jet and slam it into a U.S. landmark," according to previously secret portions of a report prepared last year by the Sept. 11 commission. The officials also realized months before the Sept. 11 attacks that two of the three airports used in the hijackings had suffered repeated security lapses.

WHAT?? WHAT?? That can't be true. Why that would mean... [gulp]... oh my word! President Bush wasn't in office then, was he?

Ah, no.

But, but, who was in office then?

Why. Bubba.

Oh. Figures.

all this information passed from richard clarke to the bush administration.

remind me, did they fly a plane into a tower in 1998, or in 2001? and who was president in 2001?

i guess no matter how much you warn a republican it'll still be a democrat's fault.

we had osama bin laden cornered in afghanistan, too bad we had to search for those WMDs in iraq at the same time, too.

i really don't know why bush is so upset about 9/11. he should be happy, it saved his presidency.

I whilst I consider proudly to be a Liberal (which can cover lots of definitions - and there are some aspects of the UK Liberal Democrats and the Democrat party I don't agree with) - I did hear that they had at some point had Bin Laden in their sights but Clinton at the last moment called off the mission. Although few knew what was to happen - it was a badly missed opportunity.
